3rd Open Academy Davos

for students and doctoral students

August 5 – 14, 2010

Climate Change and Health

Climate change and human health are closely linked. For instance, exposure to traffic-related air pollution seems to cause asthma in children. On the other hand it is a well established fact that climate change and agriculture – and with it food production – influence each other.

Together with distinguished experts of climate change and human health research we will investigate and learn how environmental conditions and human health interact with each other.

Some of the lead questions of the OAD 2010 are:

  • How does climate change affect the means of livelihood for future generations?
  • Does climate change influence the occurrence and spreading of e.g. allergic and pulmonary diseases?
  • What are the technical and legal means for controlling and/or avoiding the spread of diseases, the emission of pollutants and lastly the promotion of human well being?
  • What are the perspectives beyond apocalyptic visions?

The 3rd Open Academy Davos is organized by the Wissensstadt Davos, the University of Cologne Medical Faculty and an interdisciplinary team of students from all over Europe. The event offers all interested students from any subject areas the possibility to look into a subject at great depth. At the end of the academy, participants will present the work they have compiled in public. Working languages are English and German, depending on the group structure.
